The inhabitants of Camp Levieux demonstrated noisily in the streets yesterday, Wednesday, against the increase in the price of fuel. The different units of the police force and the elements of the SSU were mandated on the place. And this demonstration was quite tense in the evening when 2 young people in their twenties, were arrested by the police for illegal assembly. Fortunately, around 9:30 pm, they were released after Rama Valayden and Akil Bissessur spoke with the police. And by this time, the situation has settled down a bit.
Early in the morning, there were rumours that Darren the activist would be arrested. The latter was helped by the demonstrator to leave the scene. “Na pas touche Darren, pena pou prend piti là”, the inhabitants of the locality shouted at the police.
It should be noted that this popular uprising in Camp-Levieux was caused by the increase in fuel prices and the price of household gas. Other people were also protesting against the increase in the price of medicines and food for some time. In the afternoon, the demonstrators carried placards and marched in front of the police station in Camp Levieux.
Various live broadcasts on social networks showed the tense situation on the ground. It was reported that a woman who was looking for her son was among the protesters. As night fell, calm returned to Camp Levieux.
