DCP Mukhtar Din Taujoo, ASP Ashok Mattar and SAMU’s Dr Ayasamy held a press conference this afternoon. DCP Taujoo explained the circumstances surrounding the accident at Pailles, on the freeway near Mayflower. He said the truck driver had explained that his vehicle’s brakes had failed. He explained how the truck had collided with the various vehicles. He recalled that the vehicle contained a lot of old scrap metal. “Given the circumstances, we should consider ourselves lucky that it wasn’t more serious,” he said. Dr Ayasamy pointed out that 5 people suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident.
DCP Taujoo also pointed out that of the drug tests carried out on motorists over the Christmas period, 10 tested positive. 62 motorists were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol.
