DCP Heman Jangi Transferred To Police Training School

Must Read

Can he be transferred to another department when he was contracted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Crime to head the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID)? This is the question that many police officers are asking after the news of the transfer of Heman Jangi from CCID to the Police Training School (PTS) in Beau-Bassin came out late Wednesday afternoon, October 26. In the meantime, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kistnasamy Armoogum, who is at the CCID, will head the department.

The transfer of Heman Jangi, considered a police officer who has been in the good book of the current government, is variously commented within the police force. Who motivated the transfer of this man who has seen several political opponents of the ruling government parade through the CCID premises, some of whom have fallen under arrest. The case of the USB key containing videos of the torture of detainees in the office of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Terre-Rouge or the failure to summon former minister Yogida Sawmynaden for his fictitious job as a constituency clerk could be the trigger.

If this is the case, the government wants to restore its image in order to get rid of the opposition’s criticisms and at the same time, to do damage control on the sidelines of the upcoming municipal and legislative elections.

Another question about the transfer of DCP Jangi to the PTS is that, as a contracted officer, he does not wear a uniform. How can he work in a school where discipline is a must without wearing a uniform? Currently, the STP has an assistant commissioner of police, Rajcoomar Seebah as its head.

As a reminder, Heman Jangi’s two-year contract with the police force, which had expired on Friday, June 3, 2022, has been renewed for another year. It was the Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, Pravind Jugnauth, who granted the contract for a third consecutive year to the former boss of the CCID.

Heman Jangi had retired from the police force as the boss of the CCID in March 2020. However, he returned to the Central Barracks in June of the same year after being awarded a two-year contract to take over the management of the department.

His name had been mentioned as one of the contenders for the position of Police Commissioner when Mario Nobin left. However, it was Khemraj Servansingh who was chosen to head the police force. The latter was replaced by Anil Kumar Dip, after his retirement on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.
