To mark this year’s Anti-Slavery Day, A Seen on the Screen (ASOS), one of the world’s leading online retailers, announced last October that it was providing new funding to Anti-Slavery International to support the Migrant Resources Centre (MRC) in Mauritius.
The investment will contribute to the operation of the center and help Anti-Slavery International continue to provide technical advice, monitoring and learning support to MRC staff.
The Center was officially inaugurated yesterday at the CTSP headquarters in the presence of CTSP leaders, including Jane Raggoo and Reaz Chuttoo.
The MRC is working to strengthen interaction with the national government, primarily the Department of Labor, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training. Since February 2020, over 130 cases, which may include several garment and manufacturing workers, have been referred to the Migrant Resource Center for processing and resolution.
Simon Platts, the Resources Director of ASOS traveled to Mauritius for the occasion. He said that migrant workers are at high risk of exploitation and that is why the MRC is addressing these vulnerabilities to ensure that they can access the same level of rights and protection as other workers.
“We are extremely grateful to continue this vital work alongside our partners at Anti-Slavery International, IndustriALL, and CTSP so that we continue to ensure that our garments are made with respect for workers and their rights, and drive change in the fashion industry.”
