0.32% of the population is affected by the virus. As of Wednesday 4th August, we have 96 asymptomatic cases and 4 cases admitted to the treatment centre at ENT Hospital. On the other hand, new cases are popping up everywhere.
Prisons affected
Two new cases at the New Wing of the Central Prison in Beau Bassin where two of the guards posted at the wing, recently transformed into a quarantine centre, have been tested positive. A contact tracing exercise has been set up since the detection on Wednesday morning. At the Grande Rivière North East prison, an nurse attached to the prison’s medical unit has tested positive.
Infected hospitals
In addition, there are several suspected cases among the staff at the Brown Sequard Mental Healthcare Hospital in Beau Bassin. Several cases are also suspected at the SSRN Hospital after rapid testing exercises. As the results were deemed unreliable, the members of the public concerned were sent home and will be contacted for PCR testing.
Other isolated cases have been reported in Riche Terre, Riche Mare, Pamplemousses, Rivière du Rempart, and in certain offices in Ebène and Port Louis.
Two schools closed
The students of the Notre Dame du Refuge School in New Grove had to return home on Wednesday morning. One positive case was identified among the students. Classes will resume on Friday morning, 6th August after the disinfection of the premises. The Piton SC will also remain closed on Thursday 5th August where a student in Grade 7 has been tested positive.
