The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, called upon citizens aged 18 years and above to get vaccinated with the second booster dose to better protect themselves against the Covid-19 virus. He made this appeal, today, at the launching of the official campaign of the second booster dose against Covid-19, at Sir Harilal Vaghjee Memorial Hall, in Port-Louis.
Several Ministers and Members of Parliament were inoculated with their second booster dose on that occasion.
Prime Minister Jugnauth, in his statement, highlighted that the health of the population remains a priority for Government and that all resources are being deployed to facilitate access to a second booster dose. A vaccine will help boost immunity against the virus and the administration of a second booster dose is recommended in the wake of the spread of new variants, he said.
The Prime Minister also stressed on the need to continue to abide by sanitary and precautionary measures to break the chain of transmission as the virus is still present in the country. He reassured the population that there are sufficient doses of vaccines in case of any resurgence of the Covid-19 and new variants.
As regards the Monkeypox disease, the Prime Minister underlined that Government is closely monitoring the situation to better protect the population against the viral disease which is a matter of concern as it is spreading across the world.
The vaccine to be administered as second booster dose against the COvid-19 is the Pfizer vaccine for high-risk patients aged between 40 and 59 years old, and for persons aged 59 years and above; and Moderna vaccine for high-risk patients aged between 18 and 39 years old.
The administration of the second booster dose vaccine will be carried out in twelve Vaccination Centres as follows:
