The Ministry of Health and Wellness started, today, at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre in Pailles, the administration of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine.
The first shipment of 108,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine reached Mauritius on 7 August 2021. This delivery is part of the initiative, African Vaccine Acquisition Trust, which will ship a total of 6.4 million vaccine doses to African Union Member States.
Speaking on the ongoing vaccination campaign against SARS-CoV-2, the Regional Health Director, Dr Vijayesing Dinassing, called on those already vaccinated against COVID-19 not to try and get the Johnson & Johnson jab.
The vaccine is available in the vaccination centres across the country on Thursday 12, Friday 13 and Saturday 14 August 2021.
It is noted that some 738,916 people have already received their anti-COVID first jab, and 592,183 individuals have been vaccinated with both doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
