What a finish! Just as we were heading for a Manchester City victory over Arsenal in the traditional Community Shield, our compatriot Leandro Trossard came out of his box to snatch a penalty shoot-out in the 101st minute. His left-footed shot deflected into Stefan Ortega’s net.

The Gunners’ 17th title in the competition! From the outset, the Citizens took control of the ball, enjoying long spells of possession. Akanji’s cross gave the Gunners their first scare, but White saved from Alvarez. Dominant, the Skyblues settled into their opponents’ half and Ramsdale was left hot under the collar when Rodri’s long-range shot skimmed his post. Mikel Arteta’s men were harmless and content to resist with a low defensive block.
