The Mauritian delegation that travelled to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games returned home on Wednesday 10 August with five medals, the most medals Mauritius has won in the history of these intercontinental Games.
They were welcomed by Minister Stephan Toussaint and their respective families as well as friends and members of their federations at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Plaisance.
Mauritius won five medals at the Games. Judoka Rémi Feuillet, boxer Richarno Colin and weightlifter Roilya Ranaivosoa won silver medals in their respective disciplines. Sébastien Perrine and Christiane Legentil won bronze in judo.
Australia with 67 gold, 57 silver and 54 bronze medals arrived at the top of the medals ranking before England and Canada. Mauritius came 27th with three silver and two bronze medals.
In 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Mauritius took the 16th place with one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
