Police Sergeant Hack assigned to the Central Division’s Family Protection Squad (FPS) rescued a 14-year-old boy from drowning at Mamzelle Basin, Saint Paul, Phoenix on the morning of Friday, May 19. This teenager and a group of fellow truants went to this location for a swim.
Upon seeing the arrival of the BPF police officers, the youths fled, except for the victim.
It is following a request from the police station of Phoenix that these men of the BPF went to Mamzelle Basin around 9:40 am on Friday, May 19th. Arriving on the spot, the police officers found a group of students composed of boys and girls sitting on the bank of the river. Eight others were swimming in the water. They ran away when they saw the police officers, except for one teenager who lives in Riviere du Poste. This youth who is in grade 8 and attending a middle school in Curepipe was in the water and was begging for help.
Sergeant Hack immediately jumped into the water to rescue him. The young college student was transported to Victoria Hospital in Candos. After receiving treatment, he was admitted to the ward. During this rescue operation Sergeant Hack lost his glasses and his cell phone was damaged.
The child’s mother was alerted and quickly went to her son’s bedside.
