After Lin, the country loses another of its sacred monsters of music. The trumpeter Claudio Cassimally died this afternoon after a long illness. He was 79 years old. His funeral will take place tomorrow.
Very popular in the 1980s, for his parodies and imitations, Claudio Cassimally was above all a fine trumpet player. He was also a great musician of Police Band in the 70s.
Resident in Belle-Etoile, Coromandel, the artist was not in good health for 10 years: “He was not in good health. He was regularly going back and forth between home and the clinic. Since last Sunday, his health has deteriorated. It is certainly a great loss for our family. But where he is now, we know that he is not suffering anymore,” says Sandra, Claudio’s oldest daughter.
Philippe Thomas – another trumpet player who needs no introduction – learned his first notes with the deceased trumpet player: “I learned my first trumpet notes with him. He was a great musician. I am happy to have shared several scenes with him. The last time I visited him was two months ago. And as usual, I played for him and it made him very happy.”
Note that Claudio Cassimally’s musician friends will pay their last respects at his funeral scheduled for tomorrow.
