The Reunion Island dominated the swimming competition with 20 gold medals at these 12th CJSOI Games, but Mauritius won 13. A performance that exceeds the ten gold medals expected in the Mauritian camp.
The last day in swimming turned in favor of the Reunionese. But Mauritius with Gabrielle Bathfield, Matteo Tin Wan Yuen and Farhan Muslun has strongly marked its presence in the Olympic pool of Cote d’or.
Gabrielle Bathfield won five gold medals in total, Matteo Tin Wan Yuen realized a triple. As for Lisa Wong Hon Lung and Shawn Li Hing Duen, they each won a gold medal. The revelation for Mauritius remains the two gold medals won by Farhan Muslun in the 50m and 100m backstroke. Farhan Muslun broke the national record of his category in these two races.
For the coach of the women’s team of Mauritius, Honnie Heerah, satisfaction is the order of the day. “We had set our goal at ten gold medals. We finally won 13 gold medals. So we did better than expected”. she said.
