Radhakrishna Sadien voices out his disappointment. The Confederation of Free Trade Unions’ (CFTU) request to Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth for the decree of substituted public holidays on 27 December 2021 and 03 January 2022 has remained unanswered and has obviously not been approved as Monday 27 December was a working day. He intends to reiterate his request on Tuesday 28 December on behalf of the country’s workers on 03 January 2022.
Even though he is disappointed, he is not demotivated at all. “They received the letter but neither did they take it into consideration nor did they give me feedback. I remain hopeful that our request for the substituted holiday on 3 January 2022 will be taken into account“. This request is because 25 December 2021 was a Saturday and 01 January and 02 January will be on a Saturday and a Sunday respectively.
The population will therefore celebrate the New Year as a simple weekend and thus, there is no way to have a longer rest. This request is being made on behalf of every employee but especially for all those front liners who are out of breath and caught up in this whirlwind of Covid 19 in the name of duty. The president of the CFTU will reiterate his request based on the same motivations expressed in his first request, that is, to say the pandemic and its psychological effects, the fatigue and the zero morale, the loss of loved ones, the fear of uncertainty, the stress, the anxiety and the burn-out engendered since the pandemic as well as the importance for a family to be able to come together and think over the past and the coming year.
Radhakrishna Sadien remains convinced that the working class will be very grateful to the government if the substituted leave decree for 03 January is approved. He appeals to the humanity of Pravind Jugnauth.
