Bruneau Laurette was returned to the police cell on Monday, after his Court’s appearance. His motion to dismiss the charges was taken before the Court in Moka, to which the prosecution has objected. The Police then asked that Bruneau Laurette be taken to jail. His lawyer, Me. Shakeel Mohamed then objected, and stated that the proceedings should continue Wednesday. Bruneau Laurette has been returned to the police cell.
Bruneau Laurette asks to be under camera surveillance 24/7
The social activist, Bruneau Laurette was returned to the police cell this Monday, December 5, 2022, following his appearance before the Court of Moka. He will remain in police custody until Wednesday, December 7, 2022, where his motion for release on bail will be debated.
On Monday, Bruneau Laurette said he fears that he will be “trapped a second time” and asks to be placed under camera surveillance 24/7. The Police will make their position on the matter known on Wednesday, December 7.
On the other hand, Magistrate Jade Ngan Chai King heard this Monday, December 5, 2022, the proceedings on the defense motion to strike the provisional charges against the activist.
This motion is in two parts, namely the lack of reasonable suspicion and abuse of process. The prosecution, represented by Roshan Varma Santokhee, Principal State Counsel, opposed the second part of the motion. The Court will make its decision known on December 16, 2022.
