Britney Spears’ husband Sam Asghari, who is an actor and personal trainer, posted a statement on social media and has denied he will challenge the prenuptial agreement he has with the pop singer after filing for divorce after 14 months of marriage.
On Thursday, Asghari wrote on his Instagram story, “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S**t happens. “Asking for privacy seems ridiculous (sic) so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful”, he added.
According to a copy of the petition, Asghari filed a petition for divorce with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, based on “irreconcilable differences”. As per the petition, Asghari is seeking to secure monetary support from Britney and intends for the pop singer to pay for his lawyers. Both Spears’ and Asghari’s assets individually and jointly are not yet revealed.
A representative of Asghari rejected what the media claims and went on to threaten to release unspecified embarrassing materials about Spears unless concessions were made in their prenup.
Asghari’s representative Brandon Cohen said, “There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos. However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed toward her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
The pop singer has not yet addressed the matter publicly.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari tied the knot in June 2022 which was attended by celebrities including Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton.
They first met in 2016, on the set of a music video for Spears’ single “Slumber Party.” The singer shared her desire to marry Asghari as she wanted to end the conservatorship, which as she said was coming in the way of it.
For 13 years Spears and Asghari were under a conservatorship that court ordered but seven after that, the couple wedded. The conservatorship was ended by a Los Angeles judge in a landmark court hearing in November 2021.
