Boy Fished Out Of Water And Placed On Artificial Ventilator

Two families experienced drama on quasi-Easter Sunday during an outing on April 16. A 6-year-old boy was admitted to North Hospital and placed on artificial ventilation after being fished out of the Mont Choisy lagoon where he was in trouble. A 78-year-old French woman who was on an excursion with a group of ten people drowned on Ile aux Aigrettes after getting into trouble while swimming.

This Sunday, a policeman assigned to the police station was on duty on the beach of Mont Choisy when he saw a man carrying a child in his arms running towards his direction at the northern entrance of this place at about 4:25 pm. Distraught, this resident of cité Sainte Claire, Goodlands had to tell him that his six-year-old nephew who was swimming in the water was in trouble.

He said he then rescued him. An ambulance service was called and was soon on the scene before the child was taken to the north hospital with his uncle. The child was placed on artificial ventilation. His vital prognosis is engaged.

On the other hand, Jacqueline Noëlle Accardo, born Vavre, a 78-year-old Frenchwoman lost her life at about 11:05 am during an excursion to Ile aux Cerfs. The septuagenarian went on this outing in the company of a dozen people. During the trip, the group made a stop at Ile aux Aigrettes for a swim. At one point Jacqueline Noëlle Accardo found herself in difficulty in the water, she was rescued and taken to the hospital in Mahebourg for treatment.

Unfortunately, the doctor on duty had to note that the septuagenarian had already given up the ghost. Her body was then taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Sheila Jankee-Parsad, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to asphyxia due to drowning.
