The spokesperson of Emmanuel Macron’s presidential movement, Mrs. Prisca Thevenot, is on an official visit to Mauritius. She paid a courtesy call on Tuesday morning to the Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the Treasury building in Port-Louis. During her meeting with the President of the Republic, she spoke about the Mauritian diaspora.
At the end of the meeting with the PM, Mrs. Thevenot emphasized the very strong fraternal and historical relations that exist between Mauritius and France. She said that the discussions with the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, focused on the health crisis caused by COVID-19 while adding that both countries have a lot to learn from each other. Mauritius and France are inspired by the same values including progressiveness, humility, and pragmatism, which will enable them to deal with the health crisis, she said.
In addition, Mrs. Thevenot said that her stay in Mauritius is the first outside France since the outbreak of the COVID-19. She also praised the health protocols put in place by the Mauritian government in the context of the pandemic.
Ms. Prisca Thevenot was born in 1985, in Strasbourg, France, to Mauritian parents. Since June 2021, she has been elected to the Regional Council of Ile de France where she works mainly on the subject of the fight against discrimination: access to housing, education, culture, and taking into account the particularities of each person, especially the French with dual nationality.
In addition, since the end of 2020, she has been appointed spokesperson for the presidential movement and is in charge of communicating and explaining the government’s actions and also the movement’s positions.
The bilateral and friendly relations that Mauritius shares with the Republic of France as well as with the Mauritian diaspora in France was on the agenda today during a courtesy call by Mrs. Prisca Thevenot, spokesperson of Emmanuel Macron’s presidential movement, to the President of the Republic, Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House.
In a statement after the meeting, Ms. Thevenot said she was very honored to have met the President of the Republic of Mauritius. She pointed out that the latter spoke of the excellent relationship between the two countries and said he was happy to see the Mauritian diaspora shine in their adopted country.
Other topics on the international front were also discussed such as the inequality after the COVID-19 crisis and the importance of international solidarity towards countries that do not have the same assets.
