Ravindranath Goburdhun, 60 years old, also known as Ratan, who had left his home at Route Royale, Grande Rivière Sud Est (GRSE) since Saturday afternoon of January 28, had not returned for the night. His body was discovered the next morning, Sunday, January 29 in the water 5 meters from the landing by a skipper of a ferry boat. Elements of the National Coast Guard (NCG) from Deux Frères recovered the body before it was transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis.
It was around 06:15 in the morning of Sunday, January 29, that a 64-year-old skipper of a ferry boat made this macabre discovery while he was on a sea trip. He immediately alerted the NCG station. Police officers from this station arrived and later removed the body from the water on the instructions of Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the forensic department of the police. Ravindranath Goburdhun was wearing a white shirt and black pants.
His wife explained that the victim had left his house at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, to have a few drinks in the locality. The latter, who had a penchant for the bottle, was also a heart patient.
The victim was later identified by his wife, before the body was taken to the mortuary of the Dr Jeetoo Hospital for an autopsy. The autopsy, which was conducted in the afternoon of Sunday, January 29 by Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to asphyxiation due to drowning.
The funeral of Ravindranath Goburdhun took place this Monday, January 30 at 11 am. He was subsequently cremated at Two Brothers.
