A tragedy occurred in the swimming pool of the Radisson Blu Azuri Resort & Spa in Haute Rive, Roches Noires in the afternoon of Sunday, February 26. The lifeless body of a 37 year old French tourist was taken out of the pool of this hotel. This man had arrived in Mauritius for a vacation on Wednesday 22 February. Accompanied by his wife and son, he was to return to France on Friday, March 3.
It is following a request that police officers from the police station of Rivière du Rempart went to this hotel shortly before 5 pm on Sunday 26 February. A resident of this hotel drowned in the pool. The victim was removed from the water after being found floating on his back. Dr. Mootoosamy of the northern clinic who was dispatched to the scene could only note his death at 16 hours 45.
The autopsy performed in the evening of Sunday, February 26 at the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis, by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed her death to asphyxiation due to the aspiration of her stomach contents.
An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
