Blinken On Three-Nation Africa Tour

Must Read

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Kenya, the first stop on a three-nation Africa tour. He joined Kenya’s foreign minister in calling for a ceasefire in Ethiopia. Anthony Blinken appealed for the preservation of democracy in politically and ethically fractured societies as he opened his first official visit to Africa in Kenya amid worsening crises in neighbouring Ethiopia and Sudan.

In a lengthy, private meeting with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and other top officials, Kenya’s role in seeking to ease the conflict in Ethiopia was hailed by Blinken as an example of a vibrant, inclusive democracy despite challenges it has faced in its own recent elections. The State Department stated that Blinken spent an hour-and-a-half alone with Kenyatta in a one-on-one session that has been scheduled for only 10 minutes although the exact topics of the discussion and any potential developments were not immediately disclosed.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Nigeria, the second stop on his three-nation Africa tour. He took the opportunity at a news conference to send a warning to Sudan’s military rulers.
