A total of 78.8 grams of heroin worth Rs 1,182,000 was found at the home of Wayne Indiano Attock at Avenue Trésor, Baie du Tombeau. The 29-year-old pig farmer, who was suspected of drug trafficking, was under surveillance by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU). The raid on his home on the morning of Thursday 17 November was successful.
It was at about 5.40am on the morning of Thursday 17 November that his house was raided. The men of Sergeant Mohun of the Western Division ADSU found the 78.8 grams of heroin and gold jewellery, including a ring with the initials WD, a ring with a black design, a ring with a white stone with a woman as a design, another ring with a logo as a design, a bracelet with a small heart as a pendant and a necklace measuring sixty centimetres. Some or all of the seized jewellery is suspected to have been purchased with money from the sale of drugs.
Wayne Attock was taken into custody after being brought before the Pamplemousses court on the afternoon of Thursday 17 November. A provisional charge of drug trafficking was brought against him.
In addition, on the same day at around 1.30pm, Sergeant Jadaw of the ADSU East Division, with the assistance of the police helicopter, proceeded to uproot 117 cannabis plants in a wooded area in Melrose. The weight of the plants, which measure between 30 and 1.5 metres, is 2.5 kilos, and are worth Rs 2 million.
At around 7.20 pm, Satish Coomar Sawoo Balgobin, 47, was arrested following a search of his home and yard at Camp Jackerie, Olivia. The suspect was found in possession of 33 resealable bags containing a total of 33.9 grams of cannabis, a clear plastic bag with 79.16 grams of the drug and the sum of Rs 46,000, which is suspected to be derived from the sale of the drug. The market value of this imported drug is Rs 1,713,000. The suspect was presented before the Flacq court on Friday morning, November 18, before being taken to the Moka detention centre. He has been charged with drug trafficking on a provisional basis.
A little later, at around 7.35pm on Thursday 17 November, it was the turn of Sergeant Cadersah’s team from the ADSU of the Metropolitan Division to apprehend Louis Désiré Hervé Angeline, alias Hervé, a 48-year-old security guard living in the village of Bambous. The raid at his home on Avenue Saint Sauveur resulted in the seizure of 93.42 grams of cannabis, 45 packets of cellophane paper containing the drug and an electronic scale. The value of the drugs seized is Rs 140,000. Hervé Angeline was placed in a cell at the Roche-Bois police station after his appearance in the Bambous court on 18 November. He is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking.
