After two performances in Rodrigues on July 23 and 24, Bananin koste by Latroup Ganding will be performed in Mauritius on August 5 and 6. This musical takes a leap in the past to recreate the atmosphere of the New Year in the families of Rodrigues 50 years ago, if not more.
It was a diary entry that gave Marcel Poinen the idea to create this musical. From this idea was born a documentation and a research work to compile a maximum of information: “To keep the authenticity of the project, it was necessary to glean information from the elders to know how the celebrations of the New Year of Rodrigues took place in the years 50/70. And we were pleasantly surprised,” explains Marcel Poinen – the director of the troupe.
And for good reason, it’s a whole folklore that the troupe brings to light: “In the past, the Rodriguans used to shoot firecrackers to announce their arrival at their hosts’. The latter did the same before welcoming them with a pineapple compote. Then apart from the famous roast pork, there were also all the finery that were out for the occasion. The Mauritian public will live this moment through this musical that will be played at the Caudan Art Centre. ”
As a reminder, tickets are available between Rs 500 and Rs 700.
