A driver was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Bois Marchand, Terre Rouge highway near the footbridge on the evening of Saturday, July 1. The accident resulted in the death of Louis Désiré Brasse, also known as Gaston, aged 58 and a resident of the NHDC apartments, Baie du Tombeau. The driver is being actively sought by the police.
The accident occurred at around 7.50 pm on Saturday evening, July 1, on the Bois Marchand highway. When police arrived at the scene, the injured driver was lying on the left side of the road. There was blood near his head. An ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence was called to the scene. The doctor on board pronounced the man dead at 7.56pm. His body was then taken to the morgue of the Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis, for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department on Sunday August 2, attributed his death to multiple injuries.
A pharmacist from the capital who was crossing the road at the time of the accident told investigators at the Terre Rouge police station that he was driving in the fast lane when a body was thrown onto his car. According to his version, the victim was hit by a car in the slow lane. As a result of the impact, he was thrown into the fast lane.
