The High Commissioner of Australia to Mauritius, Dr Kate O’Shaughnessy, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, on Tuesday afternoon, at the seat of his Ministry, in Port-Louis.
In a statement following the courtesy call, the High Commissioner highlighted that discussions focused on further strenghtening cooperation between Australia and Mauritius in several areas such as climate change and education and research.
Furthermore, Dr O’Shaughnessy underlined that Australian skills and expertise are well-placed to meet Mauritius’ growing needs. In this context, Australia is working closely with the University of Mauritius and the European Union on smart agriculture in Belle Mare.
The High Commissioner also dwelt on the oil spill project that Australia is actually developing in collaboration with the Mauritius Oceanographic Institute so as to help Mauritius combat climate change.
Dr O’Shaughnessy is a career officer with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and was most recently Deputy Director at DFAT’s Western Australia State Office. She has previously served overseas in Ghana.
Dr O’Shaughnessy holds a PhD and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Western Australia.
