Is August going to be a month of political tides? In any case, several dates have been announced and it seems that both the government and the Opposition are motivated.
Activities for the 40th anniversary of the MSM
The ruling party will celebrate its 40th anniversary this August. The Movement Socialist Militant (MSM) will organize its first congress on 12 August in Triolet. A series of activities that will cover all 20 constituencies was also announced by the Party President, Joe Lesjongard last Saturday at the Sun Trust. They will involve partners such as the Mouvement Liberater (ML), Steven Obeegadoo, Alan Ganoo who will be celebrating 40 years in politics and other members who are not parliamentarians.
The Common Front Assembling
The Ptr, which has joined the Entente de l’Espoir, has set up a Common Front for a general demonstration on Friday 12 August, denouncing Sniffing and calling for the MSM government to step down. On Monday 01 August, Sherry Singh, the former CEO of MT, met with leaders Navin Ramgoolam and Xavier Luc Duval. It follows that they will be working together in this joint action. It is planned that he will meet with other known parties as well as new parties and NGOs. His aim is to rally all opponents of the government to raise their voices in unison on a “common date” in the streets. Singh also met with activist, Bruneau Laurette of Linion Pep Morisien. The latter is willing to cancel his protest of Sunday 07 August, to align himself with the common cause in the spirit of removing the current government. During a press conference, Sherry Singh made it clear that “the country is not in an electoral logic but the important thing is to remove this government“. Sherry Singh presented himself as a unifier: “Everyone concerned must put aside their differences. We need to express our frustrations against this government in a democratic way and as a united people. Even as we divide ourselves and make various dates, our actions will not do justice to what the people want”.
RP in planning mode
The Reform Party has not been part of the Entente de l’Espoir since the majority vote last Saturday. But at a Political Bureau meeting on Monday 01 August, where they met to define the immediate future of the party to go solo in the next elections in 2024 with 60 candidates and Roshi Bahadain as Prime Minister. Roshi Bhadain announced a meeting with other leaders of the Entente of Hope for Tuesday and a press briefing at the end of the week to announce some decisions.
Other Fronts are planning to raise their voices in August.
