Athletics: Liliane Potiron Breaks The National Long Jump Record

Must Read

National Championships: Liliane Potiron from Rodrigues broke the national record in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.01 m during the national championships of athletics which ended this Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Maryse Justin stadium in Reduit. The former mark was owned by Jenna Rima (5.94m – 22 May 2010).

Liliane Potiron announced the colour from her first attempt with a jump measured at 5.96 m. She then repeated the feat on her fifth attempt with a leap of 5.99m before landing at 6.01m on her sixth and final attempt.

“I didn’t expect to break the national long jump record. My best performance was 5.86m.  I was prepared to break my own national record in the triple jump. Unfortunately, the two record jumps I achieved on Saturday were not validated because of the wind”, said Liliane Potiron.

Indeed, in the women’s triple jump competition, Liliane Potiron landed on two occasions above her record mark of 13.24 m, which she achieved this year.  But with a favourable wind much higher than the 2 m/s acceptable to homologate a record, the 13.29 m and 13.40 m she recorded were not validated.
