The road claimed another victim this Saturday morning, July 1. Dharambeer Sundhoo, 85, met a tragic end when the electric bicycle he was riding was involved in an accident with a van in Trou d’Eau Douce. The victim did not survive his injuries.
The accident occurred at around 10 am on Saturday morning, July 1, on Route Royale in Trou d’Eau Douce. The octogenarian was riding his motorized bicycle when he was involved in an accident with a van. Seriously injured, an ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence was called to the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, the doctor on board could only certify the death of the octogenarian.
Dharambeer Sundhoo’s body was taken to the morgue of the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq, before being transferred to the morgue of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department, attributed his death to multiple injuries.
An investigation was launched at the Trou d’Eau Douce police station to ascertain the exact circumstances of the accident. The driver of the vehicle involved has been arrested on a provisional charge of manslaughter.
Dharambeer Sundhoo’s funeral will take place this Sunday morning, July 2 at 11am. Cremation will take place in Trou d’Eau Douce.
