The newly appointed Ambassador for regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean Zone, Mr Jean-Claude Brunet, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, this afternoon, at Newton Tower in Port-Louis. Mr Brunet was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Mauritius, Mrs Florence Caussé-Tissier.
In a statement, Ambassador Brunet underlined that discussions with the Minister focused on bilateral and regional cooperation and the common challenges facing countries in the Indo-Pacific and Southern African regions.
Mauritius to assuming the next presidency of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) while succeeding Madagascar was also brought forth at the meeting, he indicated.
Other issues discussed, the Ambassador pointed out, pertained to maritime security, economic cooperation, training of youngsters, exchange programmes, formal training and employment opportunities.
