Classes will reopen on 2 February. This was announced by the Minister of Education at a press conference on Friday. She explained that, contrarily to what was expected by the WHO, there has been no peak during the month of January despite the festive season and the arrival of Omicron. As a result, all classes can now resume as normal on 2 February.
However, some measures will be taken by the schools. Pupils will be required to wear masks and classrooms must be adequately ventilated. In addition, in case a pupil is infected, a dedicated school team will test all pupils in the class the next day and on day 3. Moreover, each school will have to have a dedicated area for testing. Dr Zouberr Joomaye, an advisor to the Ministry of Health, said the decision to close schools on 9 November was taken in a specific context. He added that the start of the school year was prepared and supervised by the Ministries of Education and Health.
