Aurélie Halbwachs-Lincoln gave Mauritius its first medal at the African Games 2024 currently taking place in Ghana. Competing in the 100-kilometer road race, the Mauritian won the silver medal in a time of 2h 42’16”. The second Mauritian in the race, Lucy de Marigny-Lagesse, finished twentieth in 2h 42’28”.
“It was very hard. The hardest thing was not to fall because there were three huge falls during the race. I had a puncture and luckily Lucy lent me her bike. It was difficult to ride against teams of four girls when we were just two. I didn’t take the risk of following the one who left at the end, because I knew I had a better chance of finishing second in the sprint”, said Aurélie Halbwachs.
South Africa’s Hayley Preen won the gold medal in a time of 2h 41’53”, while Nigeria’s Lovina Ukpeseraye took bronze in 2h 42’18”.
