Jessen Lutchmiah, known as Hansley, 28, a technician with the Plaisance Catering Department at Plaisance Airport, did not survive his injuries. The resident of Morcellement VRS, Plaine Magnien was seriously injured in the early hours of Saturday morning, October 28, when his motorcycle went off the road on Route Royale de Mare d’Albert near the Central Water Authority (CWA) reservoir. The young man died in a ward of the intensive care unit of Rose Belle’s Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital, where he had been admitted.
At 1.10am on Wednesday November 1, Jessen Lutchmiah breathed his last in the intensive care unit of Rose Belle Hospital, four days after his accident in which he was placed on artificial respiration. His body was subsequently taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department, attributed his death to septicemia.
On the day of the accident, Jessen Lutchmiah was riding his motorcycle. At one point he lost control of his two-wheeler. It then collided head-on with a wall near the CWA tank. A team of Plaine Magnien police officers arrived on the scene after being alerted. Jessen Lutchmiah lay on the sidewalk and his motorcycle on the road. He had multiple injuries to his body. He was attended to by Emergency Medical Service ambulance personnel before being taken to hospital.
The news of this young man’s death came as a shock wave to his family as well as to his relatives, neighbors, friends and acquaintances. They all had faith in God that Hansley Lutchmiah would recover from the accident. As soon as the news of his death was communicated, there was a huge turnout at the NHDC residence in Plaine Magnien to offer sympathy to his wife and loved ones.
Jessen Lutchmiah’s funeral took place on Wednesday November 1 at 4 pm. He was buried in the Pointe Brocus cemetery in Rivière des Créoles.
