The search for 56-year-old fisherman Dergey Collet will resume this morning, Wednesday February 14. The fisherman, who lives in a suburb of the capital, disappeared aboard the fishing vessel Matsya in the waters off Saint Brandon at 2.25am on Tuesday February 13. The Mauritian-flagged vessel had left on a fishing trip on the afternoon of February 7 with nine crew members.
The disappearance of Dergey Collet was reported to the Operations’ Room of the National Coast Guard (NG) by Henrico Latiou, one of Matsya’s crew members, at 3.15am on Tuesday February 13. At the time, the fishing vessel was 105 nautical miles northeast of Saint Brandon and 306 nautical miles north-northeast of Mauritius.
The Matsya had left Port-Louis harbor at 3:30 p.m. for its fishing trip. The FV Ocean Atinas, which was in the area, was the first to assist in a search operation, after a radio message was sent to all vessels in the vicinity. At 7 a.m., the NCG Dornier aircraft took off to launch a Search And Rescue (SAR) operation. Two other fishing boats, the FV Dai Fah 1 and the FV Dai Fah 6, also assisted in the search operation from 9 o’clock on Tuesday morning, February 13.
