Members of Rodrigues’ Special Mobile Force (SMF) were called to the village of Grande Montagne to dig up a body in a yard on Saturday morning 22 July. The decomposing male body was taken to the morgue of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Crève-Cœur for an autopsy.
On Friday 21 July, police officers from the Grande Montagne police station and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Pot-Mathurin received reports of a body buried in a yard. Inspector Jean from the Port-Mathurin CID and Inspector Cupidon from Grande Montagne police station went to the address on Saturday morning, 22 July, accompanied by health officers.
The SMF men searched the yard, where the earth had been turned over. The body of a man in an advanced state of decomposition, along with his clothes, was unearthed. The house in the yard was unoccupied. According to some sources, the occupants were in Mauritius.
An investigation has also been launched to identify the victim.
