The opposition leader held a press briefing at midday. He returned on the Private Notice Question. For Xavier-Luc Duval, it has been established “without a doubt” that the figures published by the Ministry of Health are shamefully manipulated. For him, the primary responsibility of a government, in the context of a pandemic, is to tell the truth to the police and “not to glorify itself”. It is important for the population to take the necessary precautions, he said. “Human lives are at stake,” he said.
Xavier-Luc Duval recalled that in July, there were 5,000 PCR tests being carried out daily in the country. “And for the month of October, according to the minister’s figures, there are only 244 tests. The point is that if we don’t test, we won’t have positive cases. And if there are no positive cases, people will say that there is no pandemic in Mauritius,” he said.
He also talked about the efficacity of the Sinopharm vaccine according to some reports. He said that it was because of that. Most countries that have done Sinopharm vaccines have asked that the third dose be another one like Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson.
The leader of the opposition deplored the fact that medicine that treats covid, Tocilimuzad has been approved by WHO and FDA on 5 July 2021. Mauritius will not obtain any supply until 2022, because of undue delay and it is only now that the MOH has launched a tender for this medicine.
