Winner of the only Group 2 race over 990m, Rob Roy will be the horse to beat this Saturday. He got all the cards in hand with the best draw and he is carrying a decent weight.
Rob Roy showed that he is the fastest horse in Mauritius when he won The Lightning Cup (990m – GII) on the 24th of July. He jumped from the worst draw, and he still was quicker than his rivals to take the lead easily. He won the race from pillar to post easily. Rob Roy is a genuine sprinter with six wins over 990m in Mauritius. He tried his luck over 1365m on his last outing. He had a tough race when he was not able to take the lead. But he showed his quality by fighting brilliantly to secure the second place.
Rob Roy is in a good shape. He has the draw number 1 at the gates and he will be ridden by leading jockey Dinesh Sooful who won three times with him. He will be hard to beat.
Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur will have two runners, Marauding and Al Bragge, who have decent chances. Marauding ran third in The Lightning Cup. He finished strongly and he will be right there if he races closer to the pace. Al Bragga did well in his two races in Mauritius over 1365m bagging a third and a second place. He won three times over 1000m in South Africa. He will surely be better suited by this short trip.
Horse Guards is back after a break of three months. He runs well fresh. He is the highest rated horse of the field. He has a good draw at the gates and he will have a dream run behind the leader. He merits some consideration. He will be a decent outsider.
