The Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr Georges Pierre Lesjongard, inaugurated, today, three Municipal Open Gyms at Le Cornu, Résidence Briquetterie and Batterie Cassée, in Port-Louis.
He was accompanied by the Lord Mayor, Mr Mahfooz Moussa Cader Saïb, and Members of Parliament, Mrs Marie Joanne Sabrina Tour and Mrs Subhasnee Luchmun Roy, as well as other personalities.
In a statement following the inauguration of the Municipal Open Gyms, Minister Lesjongard highlighted that one of Government’s priority is to put at the public’s disposal such facilities as open gyms so as to enable citizens to practice a regular physical activity.
Furthermore, the Minister encouraged citizens of Le Cornu, Résidence Briquetterie and Batterie Cassée to avail of the facilities which have been made available to them. He also appealed to the inhabitants of these regions to take care of the equipment and to use the open gyms on a regular basis.
For his part, Lord Mayor Cader Saïb underscored that the Municipal Council of Port-Louis is setting up open gyms, as well as green spaces, in several localities falling under its purview in a bid to ensure the welfare of citizens. He added that, with these facilities, inhabitants of one locality will not have to travel a lot in order to practice a regular physical activity.
