The Prime Minister was participating in the Laying Foundation Stone of New Flacq Teaching Hospital in Constance, Flacq, this Thursday.
During his speech, Pravind Jugnauth explained that the country cannot remain closed. “We have to open up and resume our activities,” he said. He stressed that Mauritians must “learn to live with Covid-19, though it will not be the same life as before.” We will have to adapt, he said.
He also explained that the building housing the old hospital was built a very long time ago. At one point there was talk of renovating it, but this option was not taken up because the building is dilapidated.
So the project will be in two phases. The first will be to build six floors and provide 520 beds. The current hospital can only accommodate 342. The second phase will be a teaching and training block. Pravind Jugnauth also said that other health projects are planned.
