Nigerian U. P. Okafor was sentenced by Justice R. D. Dabee to 15 years and 20 years of penal servitude after pleading guilty to two charges. The prosecution charged him with (a) attempting to take possession of 193.5874 grams of heroin worth Rs2,904,000 on November 29, 2016 and (b) assisting in the importation of 521.5 grams of heroin worth Rs7,822,500 on November 29, 2016.
In the first case, the drugs were concealed in cream jars and it was as a result of a control delivery exercise that the Nigerian was arrested. In the second case, the heroin was hidden in coils of thread. On the package, there was the address of a resident of Flic en Flac, but also the telephone number of the Nigerian, who did not deny that the parcel was intended for him. Okafor will also have to pay two fines of Rs 100,000.
