A meticulous investigation by men from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of the Eastern Division, and after long hours of surveillance, led to the arrest of four people, including a woman, on the morning of Friday December 22. This followed the discovery of a large quantity of synthetic oil, the same drug, heroin and packets of psychotropic drugs in one of Parkside’s apartments in Sodnac, Quatre Bornes. All worth Rs 41 million. A sum of Rs 270,225 suspected to have come from the sale of these drugs was also seized.
The raid by Adsu police officers from the eastern division, led by Inspector Luckmun, began at 6.45 am on the morning of Friday December 22. Navin Mootia, a 25-year-old resident of Trèfles, Rose Hill was apprehended in the parking areas of Parkside apartments in Sodnac, Quatre Bornes. He was found in possession of two plastic bottles labelled “Classic nail polish remover”, each containing 150 ml of synthetic liquid.
He was preparing to deliver the drugs to Parvesh Canoo, alias Pache, a 26-year-old entrepreneur who occupies one of the Parkside apartments as a tenant. He also lives in Trèfles, Rose like Navin Mootia. His apartment was subsequently searched. When the police arrived, he had to ask Manish Ram Dudhee, 30, from Glen Park, Vacoas, who was at home, to throw a backpack from the balcony. Ishita Jugun, 24, Parvesh Canoo’s concubine, was also present. The backpack was retrieved from the ground by a policeman. It contained three bottles of synthetic drugs and the sum of Rs 270,225.
In a kitchen, the police found two hundred and seventy-eight psychotropic tablets in blister packs, thirty-three doses of heroin in a sealable plastic bag, two electronic scales in working order, a pair of gloves and two razors with traces of heroin and synthetic drugs, fifty doses of synthetic drugs and a plastic bag containing 1670 plastic bags which were to be used to package the drugs. Parvesh Canoo had no medical prescription for these psychotropic tablets.
The four suspects were arrested and taken into custody. On Saturday morning, December 23, they were brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis. They were subsequently returned to their cells.
