Yesterday, China Town experienced an incredible moment, with huge crowds lining its adjacent streets. The sixteenth edition of the Chinatown Food & Cultural Festival, an annual event organized by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and supported by ABC Group for several years, closed today, May 28.
This 16th edition of the festival, packed with activities, will be an opportunity for the public to discover traditional Chinese dishes, foreign artists Jian Yufan and Quinn Ho, martial arts demonstrations, musical and cultural performances, as well as Chinese gastronomy.
Vincent Ah-Chuen, Managing Director of Groupe ABC, emphasized the close ties between the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Groupe ABC, whose founder, Sir Jean Etienne Moilin Ah-Chuen, became the institution’s youngest president in 1942. Ah-Chuen’s father was also a member of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, back in 1918.
“Chinatown also occupies an important place in Groupe ABC’s history, as many of its operations were based there, including ABC Cold Storage on Rue La Reine. My father, Sir Jean Etienne Moilin Ah-Chuen, opened his very first boutique, ABC Store, a few blocks from Chinatown, opposite the Central Market. For us, sponsoring the festival all these years is a way of paying tribute to this district, which was once the Mecca of commerce in Mauritius,” adds Vincent Ah-Chuen.
