As a public man, you have the right to your private life. However, if you make an abuse of your position, you must be held accountable! This is what Pravind Jugnauth said on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister was attending a ceremony on Wednesday to lay the foundation stone for a 200-home construction project in Souillac. He was questioned on the accusations made against him of interfering in the private life of Navin Ramgoolam. Pravind Jugnauth categorically denied these allegations. He said that he was only responding to questions that were addressed to him. He added that the tablets seized from Navin Ramgoolam in 2015 were not on sale in Mauritius. For him, the law must apply to everyone.
He added that he respected the private life of everyone. But a Prime Minister, a Minister or anyone else having responsibilities must be made accountable. Especially if there is an abuse of position. He also referred to Paul Berenger’s Private Notice Questions on the Black Rocks affair at the time.
