And for good reason, this inhabitant of St Pierre is getting ready to live two great moments: “This period of end of the year is particular for me. Originally from Rodrigues, it has been more than 10 years since I returned to my native country. So I will be spending New Year’s Eve with my family in Rodrigues this year.”
And if she goes there, it is mainly to celebrate her mother’s 90th birthday: “On January 5, my mother will celebrate her 90th birthday 2023. I made my trip to Rodrigues to coincide with her birthday to share this moment with her.”
In Rodrigues, the end-of-year celebrations are unique: “The end-of-year celebrations are even more folkloric. For the occasion, we turn on the typical Rodriguan gajak and cakes. And as tradition dictates, we will find roast pork for New Year’s Eve.”
