Two Killed On Motorcycles In Bambous Virieux: 101 Deaths On Our Roads Since The Beginning Of This Year

Two young people from the east who were riding a motorcycle on the evening of Wednesday, December 7, on the main road of Bambous Virieux have met a tragic end. This two-wheeled vehicle, it seems, was overtaking a parked car when it collided head-on with an oncoming goods van. The passenger on the motorcycle, Adrien Brasse, 19 years old and living in Lalmatie was killed instantly. The driver of the motorcycle, Mohammed Ally Renauth, 20 years old and living in Pont Lardier, Bel Air Rivière Sèche succumbed to his injuries at around 00:36 in the morning of Thursday, December 8, while in the operating room at the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle. To date, the number of deaths on our roads is 101 against 99 at the same period last year.

It was around 8pm on Wednesday evening, December 7, that this deadly collision took place. This accident involving a Nissan cargo van, a grey Toyota Corolla which was parked and a Suzuki motorcycle occurred on the main road of Bambous Virieux near the Siddick store. A team of police officers from the Vieux Grand-Port police station was immediately alerted and went to the scene.

The goods van was driven by a 31 year old man, living in Camp-Levieux, Rose-Hill. The parked car belongs to a 29 year old man, living on the Main Road of Bambous Virieux. According to the driver of the van, the parked car was facing towards Mahébourg. He was driving his vehicle in the direction of Flacq coming from Mahébourg. It is near the Siddick store that he said he saw the blue Suzuki motorcycle driving at high speed. The driver wanted to pass between his van and the parked car. The driver tried to pass between his van and the parked car, but the motorcycle crashed into his vehicle, lost control and crashed into the grey Toyota Corolla.

An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene of the accident. The doctor on board was to pronounce Adrien Brasse dead. Ally Renauth unfortunately succumbed to his injuries while in surgery at 12:36 a.m. on Thursday, December 8.

Both drivers involved in this accident were submitted to a breathalyzer test. This one proved to be negative. The bodies of these two young people were subsequently transferred to the morgue of the Victoria Hospital in Candos to be autopsied. The autopsy was conducted by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, Head of the Police Forensic Department and Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed the death to multiple injuries.

The driver of the cargo van was arrested and taken into custody at the Grand-Bois Police Station. He is facing a provisional charge of manslaughter. This Thursday morning, December 8, he was presented before the court of Mahébourg.
