Mauritius Olympic Committee Celebrates Olympic Week

Must Read

A whole week to celebrate sport, physical activity and the Olympic spirit! This is the program concocted by the Mauritian Olympic Committee (COM) on the sidelines of World Olympic Day which will be celebrated on June 23. This year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to place this day under the themes of ‘Move, Learn and Discover‘. In this gloomy period marked by a global pandemic and social confinement, such an initiative aims to foster positivity, dynamism and effort, while highlighting the fact that it is necessary to persevere and move forward despite the obstacles.

Inspired by the IOC’s initiative, the Mauritian Olympic Committee decided to extend the celebrations of this day to an entire week at the local level. Therefore, “from June 17 to 23, we will be celebrating an Olympic Week in Mauritius,” explains Philippe Hao Thyn Ha Shun, president of the COM. The objective will be to transmit the Olympic values to the Mauritian population, to promote the regular practice of sport and physical exercises and to help citizens cope with the difficulties linked to containment and the pandemic. “It is extremely important to stay active, positive and healthy during all times and even more so in times of crisis, because it is very easy to let go when things are gloomy. This week will also allow us to give Mauritians a foretaste of the next Olympics ”.

Given the current situation in the country and the restrictions associated with the lockdown, all activities will take place during an online social media campaign. “We will invite Mauritians to practice and discover Olympic sports. They will thus be able to learn what are the Mauritian Olympic disciplines and how to join a federation, or to discover our Olympians of yesterday and today through their training, their daily lives and their goals, in particular. We will also share a multitude of amusing, interesting, practical or curious information on the Olympic Games and sport in general, ”specifies the President of the COM. On the program: promotional campaign for Olympic sports, educational and informative campaign on the practice of these sports in Mauritius, activities to do at home alone or with family, video portraits of new and former athletes qualified for the Games, as well as many other surprises. which will be revealed in due course.
