Mr Tamayah Kamayah, from Belle Rose, celebrated his 100th birthday, on Saturday 6 August 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends.
According to the new centenarian, he owes his longevity to his positive attitude and his faith in God.
The Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo; the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mrs Tania Diolle, MP Arvin Boolell and other personalities also attended the celebrations.
In her address for the occasion, the Social Security Minister presented her best wishes to the new centenarian and applauded the family for their care of Mr Kamayah. “The fundamental role played by the family cannot be replaced,” she stated. Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo underlined government’s efforts as well to support the elderly.
To commemorate the event, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity offered to Mr Kamayah a cheque of Rs 21,836; an electric appliance; a mobile phone with 50 free calls; a bouquet of flower; the centenarian medal; and a certificate for his service.
In addition, the National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry gave him a cheque of Rs 10,000, and gifts were bestowed by the Senior Citizen Council. The Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes also handed over presents to Mr Kamayah.
Mr Tamayah Kamayah was born in Roche Bois and worked as a postman. During his career he also served as President of the Union of Post Office workers. He has seven children, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
