Covid 19 : 217 Positive Cases And 1 Official Death

Covid 19 is on the rise for this past week’s count. The weekly communiqué from the Ministry of Health has reported 217 positive cases and 1 death. The vaccination trend is on the rise.

Of these 217 positive cases, 81 are imported cases. Locally, PCR tests have confirmed 136 new cases. The New ENT Hospital has registered 19 patients during the week of which 1 is on oxygen and 18 are admitted to the general wards. The Vacoas Treatment Centre has also reported 1 death directly related to Covid 19.

Vaccination is steadily increasing with 1,011,342 people having received their first dose and the rate of the second dose is 977,724. For Booster Dose I, 627,817 people were inoculated, including 240,202 at Johnson & Johnson, 8,813 at Sinopharm, 2,825 at Astra Zeneca, 268,557 at Pfizer and 107,420 at Moderna. For Booster Dose II, 9,264 people were inoculated, including 9,088 at Pfizer, 167 at Moderna, 8 at Johnson & Johnson and 1 at Sinopharm. For the adolescent campaign, 75,568 received the first dose of Pfizer and 69,420 the second. For the pediatric dose, i.e., pupils aged 5 to 11 years, the Ministry announced a total of 10,592 children inoculated.

In Rodrigues, 74.24% of the population received the first dose, 72.20% the second and 15,423 the third.

Restrictions lifted by 30 June

“Due to the Budget and parliamentary debates over the past two weeks, the issue of lifting the restrictions has not yet been discussed by the High-Level Committee. The data will be collected and analyzed before a decision is taken,” said the Health Minister, Dr. Kailesh Jagutpal. He recalled that the situation has been manageable with health precautions and vaccination. However, he said, “the winter and seasonal flu waves may be a concern in this assessment.” He was participating in the launch of a workshop on the digitization of medical data in the Health Services in Plaine-Magnien. As for the suspected case of Monkeypox, “the patient is currently in isolation at home, and he was returning from a trip to India. We have sent samples for analysis. The results will be known in the course of the next week.”
