Torture has been a source of contagion for some officers of the police force. After the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) team of Terre-Rouge, it is the turn of the ex-Anti-Robbery Squad (ARS) of the South Division to be incriminated by a resident of Plaine-Magnien. The latter, Deepak Jeeool, 45 years old, who recognized himself in a video on Thursday, June 2, filed a complaint with the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) on Friday, June 3. The police were quick to act. Two officers of the former LRA, who were stationed at the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Mahebourg, namely Constables Moorghen and Luchmun, were arrested
These two police officers were brought before the court of Mahébourg this Tuesday morning, June 7. They are facing a provisional charge of ‘torture by public official’. As the police objected to their release on parole, the two policemen were kept in a police cell. In his complaint, Deepak Jeeool says he was brutalized by these policemen and received electric shocks on the floor of the Blue-Bay police station in 2019. In a video, a plainclothes policeman can be seen stepping on the shin of this man, who had been arrested as a suspect in a theft case.
