Classical guitar fans, make sure you remember these two dates: May 7 and 14. Guitarist Gérard Lavigilante will give a classical guitar recital at 7pm at the Centre Culturel d’Expression Française (CCEF) in Curepipe. The event coincides with the silver jubilee of the CCEF.
The guitar. It’s his whole life. No wonder he made it his profession.
Gérard Lavigilante has been walking his fingers over the strings of his guitar for 36 years. “I started playing the guitar when I was 15. Today, at the age of 51, it is still with the same passion that I get behind a soundboard.
The young man’s journey at the time was long, but above all rich in training: “In 1995, I started lessons at the François Mitterrand Conservatory of Music. After eight years of study, I was awarded a distinction in my grade 8 exams and then joined the CCEF in 1996 as a part-time music teacher. I still teach there.
For the silver jubilee of the CCEF, the guitarist wanted to mark the event with an hour and a half recital: “The audience will certainly enjoy discovering the baroque, classical and romantic repertoire that I have concocted for them. On the program the audience will enjoy composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Robert de Visée, Fernando Sor, Matteo Carcassi, Mauro Giuliani, Barrios Mangore among others.”
As a reminder, tickets are on sale at Rs 200 for adults and Rs 100 for children under 12.
