The Labour parliamentary group held a press conference in front of Government House. Shakeel Mohamed announced that one of their options is to become with a motion of disallowance. He added that parliamentarians have the right to question the reason behind an increase. However, he added, the Speaker will allow the motion to be taken.
As for Patrick Assirvaden, he held up a page on which it says that the PTr denounces the “criminal increase” against the people. He said that this is a message that a shopkeeper in Vacoas wanted him to send. “People don’t have enough to eat with the increase in gas prices,” he said.
Arvin Boolell, for his part, recalled that the increases affect the poor most, who are entering absolute poverty. “The middle class is stuck,” he said.
Shakeel Mohamed : “We must force the government to back down”
Shakeel Mohamed is asking the population whether they will continue to accept the government’s policy and whether they will continue to endure everything. For him, it is time for the population to stand up and force the government to reverse several of its decisions.
