A limit to the purchase of edible oil, namely two liters per person, is applicable from yesterday according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection.
The Ministry of Commerce recalls that the limit to the purchase is a common practice that is done throughout the year. It is not necessarily related to a shortage but allows access to a specific product to a larger number of consumers over a specific period.
As of today, there is no shortage of edible oil in Mauritius. Nevertheless, the Ministry is monitoring the global distribution chain on a daily basis.
The Ministry is urging the public not to panic and not to make compulsive or unnecessary purchases.
